2012 TD Bank Pops by the Sea
Honorary Chair Lou Colombo

Lou ColumboThe Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce that legendary Cape Cod jazz musician Lou Colombo has been named Honorary Chair of the 27th Annual TD Bank Pops by the Sea concert.

This title is presented to Colombo posthumously to honor his long career as a musical pioneer and  mainstay in the Cape's rich music scene.  In a musical career spanning over 60 years, he played trumpet with such Big Band greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Morrow, Benny Goodman, and Artie Shaw. He passed away on March 3, 2012 just a short time after finishing his last performance.

"We are honored and privileged to be able to honor Mr. Colombo in this way at the premiere musical event of the year," said Kevin Howard, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation, presenter of the concert.

"Our community was fortunate to have this music legend here in Hyannis. We are going to miss him, however, we are pleased to name Lou Colombo, this year's Honorary Chair of the Pops by the Sea," said Jessica Sylver, President & CEO of the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce.

Colombo, known for his one-handed trumpet style, also played flugelhorn, baritone horn and pocket trumpet and could be found most evenings entertaining locals and celebrities alike all around the Cape.  In an interesting career side note, before becoming a musician, Colombo was a professional baseball player for 9 seasons for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
