Caitlin Cremins is currently studying to get her master’s degree in theatre education from Emerson College. Her goal is to eventually open a children’s theatre on Cape Cod, a place that influenced her career aspirations. “I feel like my love of the arts began on the Cape,” she said. “My mom and grandmother used to take me to see children’s theatre at the Melody Tent in Hyannis. That’s where it all began.”
Those seeds have allowed Caitlin’s creativity to blossom – she’s been performing ever since she was a child. “I like that you can disappear into a character for a little while,” she said of acting. “As an audience member, I like the communal experience of theatre and how you sit and breathe with an audience and you all experience something together.”
Understanding the importance of the arts, Caitlin jumped at the opportunity to run for the Arts Foundation’s Falmouth Road Race team this year. “I cannot think of a better organization to be fundraising for,” she said. “We really need more support for the arts. I think the arts can change the world.”
She also was eager to give back to a community that has a special place in her heart. Her parents live part-time in West Falmouth. “The Cape is home for us,” she said. “We do Christmas here and I’ve spent summers here ever since I was a little kid. I met my best friend here and got my first job here. The Cape has raised me in a way.”
That has made her quite familiar with the Falmouth Road Race which both her parents, Karen and James, and her two brothers, Sean and Tom, have run before. “I enjoy running, but I’ve never done something this long,” she said. “My mom is running it with me which will be fun.”
Caitlin, who received her Bachelor of Arts in musical theatre from the University of Hartford, also spent the summer of 2016 at the College Light Opera Company (CLOC) in Falmouth, one of the country’s preeminent summer stock theatres for college students, performing in several musicals, including “Guys and Dolls”, “Beauty and the Beast”, and “A Little Night Music.”
While she enjoys being on stage, she is just as comfortable behind the scenes – she currently works at Boston College where she is the theater promotions and operations assistant, interacting with the front-of-house staff for all theatre spaces on campus.
She’ll lean on all her experiences in pursuing her dreams of sharing her passion for theatre with future generations. “I plan to start with summer sessions on the Cape and hope to make it a year-round institution with acting and dance classes,” she said. “That is going to be part of my thesis and I hope to come up with a business plan when I graduate next spring. I’m hoping it will come to fruition in the next two years or so.”
