February 13, 2017 (HYANNIS, MA) – The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, in partnership with The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, is announcing the 6th Annual POSITIVELY DIFFERENT Arts Foundation Scholarship Program. Each year, for the past six years, $5000 worth of scholarships are awarded to 5 local graduating high school seniors who are pursuing higher education in creative arts fields.
“It’s been wonderful to be able to make a difference in the lives of these students through the generous funding of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod,” said Julie Wake, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. “We have an extremely talented group of people living on the Cape and practicing art daily, and that group includes students. More and more, we’re able to quantify the positive impact art makes on education and life.”
Eligible entries will be from students who are graduating from a public, private, tech, or home education school; living on Cape Cod in the spring of 2016; and who are accepted into a degree program in their field at an accredited college or university. Five selections will be made based on the quality of the submissions, excellence of the work and academic achievement.
“Each awardee must be accepted to an accredited four-year institution,” said Julie Wake, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. “They’re each given $1000 to use toward their undergraduate degree in the arts.”
Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and require the submission of a portfolio and essay. Categories include Visual Arts, Performance Arts, and Creative Writing. Within each category are the following concentrations: Architecture, Graphic Design, painting, sculpture, mixed media under Visual Arts; set/costume design, dance, vocal and instrumental music under Performance Arts; and poetry, short story and scriptwriting under Creative Writing.
“We see our partnership with the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod in this scholarship program as two-fold.” said Joel Crowell, President and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, “The first is investing in the futures of our young people, and the second is investing in the arts. The arts community is part of the backbone of Cape Cod and part of what makes this such a special place to live and visit.”
Students can apply at artsfoundation.org/programs/scholarships throughout the spring semester. Application deadline is April 30, 2017 at midnight. The scholarships will be awarded at a luncheon in the winners’ honor in May.
