(Hyannis, MA, January 6, 2017) The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC) will host its 10th Annual Member Winter Art Exhibit at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. The 2017 juried exhibit is titled “Personal Space,” and will feature 46 local artists’ interpretations of that theme. The exhibit will be open to the public starting January 9 and will run through February 12, 2017.
Throughout the five-week exhibit many local schools and youth organizations will be hosted by a trained docent. The exhibit is designed with the younger patrons in mind; artwork for the show will be displayed at a lower height – right at children’s eye level. Many of the artists themselves will drop in to discuss their works with the students as they tour the exhibit.
“We have added a new element this year, integrating fashion into the show. We partnered with Amanda Converse of The Current Quarterly to coordinate local fashion designers to produce wearable art,” said Julie Wake, AFCC Executive Director.
“The Current Quarterly is excited to be partnering with the Arts Foundation and Cotuit Center for the Arts to bring fashion to the Winter Art Exhibit for the first time! We believe that fashion is an art form, and are pleased that local fashion designers and their work will be included in this show,” said Converse.
Visitors will get to see how local designers Aiste Zitnikaite, Taylor Brown, and Krista Wimberly, and a few students from Barnstable High School interpret the theme “Personal Space.”
Another new element this year was the jury. “This year we reached out to Massachusetts College of Art & Design and had two curators, Darci Hanna and Chloe’ Zaug, from the Bakalar & Paine Galleries jury the show. It was a great opportunity to connect our local artists with Boston eyes,” said Wake.
This exhibit was underwritten by Patron Supporter The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, Cape Cod Melody Tent, and the John K. & Thirza F. Davenport Foundation.
