College represents a special time in one’s life, serving as a period of learning, growth, and connection. And so it was with Maggie Andrulis, who was an intern during the summer of 2018 at the Arts Foundation while a student at High Point University in North Carolina.
“Being a part of the Arts Foundation when I was in college was one of the most impactful experiences I had as a student,” said Maggie.
On August 20, Maggie will give back to an organization that made a meaningful difference during such an important part of her life when she runs her first-ever Falmouth Road Race as part of the Arts Foundation team. “To be able to continue to be a part of the Arts Foundation in such a new and different way, it just feels like it has come full circle as part of my running journey,” said Maggie, who currently lives in Boston and works in tech sales for a K-12 educational firm.
She will be running a race that she was introduced to by her aunt and uncle, Carol and Bill Andrulis, who have a home in Falmouth. “They’ve been running Falmouth for roughly 10 years and they always talked so highly about it,” Maggie said. “They loved it so much they bought a house in Falmouth, and they sign up every year to run it.”
When Maggie saw the Arts Foundation was forming a road race team this year, she decided it was the perfect time to do it.
A self-described “serial sign-up-for-a-5K-never-train-for-it,” runner, Maggie finished her first half marathon – the Boston Half Marathon – last November. “The next day I signed up for the New York Marathon this November,” she said. “I’ve been training for that since December. It will be my first marathon. I went from zero to a hundred quickly.”
Before then, she’ll cross off the iconic Falmouth Road Race while running for a cause, the arts, that she is passionate about. “I’m really excited about it,” she said, noting that since her internship, “I’ve kept up with everything going on with the Arts Foundation – their podcast, following them on social media, and being champions for them from afar.”
During her time here, Maggie helped with event planning, coordination, and managing volunteers for the organization’s Pops by the Sea concert. She also supported staff with the marketing and planning of the Arts Foundation’s Prelude to Summer Gala at the Hyannnisport Club.
The internship, combined with a photography project she undertook while on the Cape, was rewarding for Maggie. “I was actually able to put together a full show as the culmination of my undergrad career of all the photos I took on the Cape of the wildlife, flowers, and all different kinds of pollinators,” she said. “That experience tied with everything I was doing at the Arts Foundation and being exposed to different artists and championing all the things they were doing were really impactful to be a part of.”
